It's the summer of 1983, and precocious 17-year-old Elio Perlman is spending the days with his family at their 17th-century villa in Lombardy, Italy. Watching this again after a break of 7 years (has it really been that long?) in a cinema on the big screen and once again appreciating just what a marvellous film this is. Apart from being an artistic masterpiece it possesses one of the most truly honest and heartwarming love stories ever filmed. The script is wonderfully crafted and it allows Armie Hammer the opportunity to turn in his best and most memorable performance. Timothee Chalamet has gone on to make so many other great films, but this is the one I will always consider his most powerful and accomplished role. Some absolutely knock-out scenes, my favourite the father-son talk after Elio returns home after spending time away with Oliver prior to the latter’s return back to the US. Beautifully delivered and emotionally charged, again rendering this viewer in awe, and in tears.
