I loved the languages and all the characters were great acting. Some parts were a little cheesy but the power of the sisterhood was undeniable. I suppose if someone went in looking for a horror movie, they might be disappointed because it is NOT a horror film. It has more in common with The Crucible (the play and the '96 film) than anything else. Similar time frame (17th C.), similar set-up - a realistic portrayal of witch trials. Both films show the insanity (or the mutant repressed sexuality) of the authorities. This IS a horror movie if you count the real life horror of human existence. The acting, from the entire cast, is astounding, particularly the two inquisitors. The setting is legit, down to the use among the girls of Basque language. Basque-looking actresses, also. And the final scene, where the girls perform a black sabbath of their imagination, is insane, down to the music. WAY better than The Witch... Highlighting the ridiculous accusations by men (and some women), specifically those who belong to catholic church and their desire for ultimate power over unmarried women. See more T T @RT95435478 Mar 5, 2023 The Spanish inquisition was a horrible and barbaric time in human history where many innocent victims were needlessly murdered. That said, this movie was very boring and unnecessarily long. It could have easily been 30 minutes shorter without affecting the plot. After about 40 minutes, I was fed up and was ready to turn it off, but I decided to continue watching it till the end. Don't make the same mistake.
