Critics Consensus

Girls of the Sun has the best of intentions, but this worthy - and thoroughly timely - story is fatally undermined by its clumsily overbearing execution.

This script is terrible, but the story and the filmmaking is very good.

"Girls of the Sun" has an air of authenticity and grit that's convincing, and Farahani, an Iranian-born actress, makes us care.

"Girls of the Sun" is a film of admirable ambition but vexingly uneven execution.

Girls of the Sun may be a war movie, but its empathy and compassion are what win the day.

Girls of the Sun is a powerful, unblinking drama about the horror of war, offering a unique female-centric view into a conflict that ravaged so many.

Strictly as a suspenseful wartime tale, the film has a handful of genuinely gripping action sequences that pull no punches as far as the violence, which only adds to the movie's authentic feel.

A powerful, gut wrenching movie with stunning cinematography and score. Th fact that it is based on actual events that were well covered by the press makes it even more important to watch.

Don't know what the critics smoked before watching this film... A truely horrific story told in a way that was easier to swallow. It didn't shy away from telling the horrors but also left some things to the imagination. We were unable to look away & I sat at the edge of my seat throughout the film. Fantastic movie.

I have never understood the critics. This was an engaging must see movie, that enables a glimpse into the nightmare that ISIS visited on ordinary people, and the courage of those that fought back, and won. Wonderful atmospheric camera work, and a plot line that fits to the chaos of the times. If you don't believe it, ask someone who was there. They are heroes. Thank you for making this movie.

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. The critics are wrong, this is an advancement in both story telling and cinematography. But the real advance is in showing what a female cast can do in order to tell the truth about the ugliness of war.

Great film. Really intelligent portrayal of the human rights abuses committed by ISIS against the Yezidi people, and women more specifically. Also an interesting view of war through women's eyes. It was refreshingly authentic to see Kurdish people playing the Kurds, Arabs playing the Arabs and so on.
