Chandu K @chandukolla Jan 19, 2026 Kaantha feels like a film made for a very narrow, regional audience, and even then its intent is unclear. Much of the buzz around the movie comes from controversy—claims that the protagonist resembles a top Tamil star of that era—which may provide context for some viewers but adds little value to the film itself. For audiences outside that cultural and industry-specific backdrop, the story feels inaccessible and hollow. The black-and-white presentation comes across as a forced gimmick rather than a meaningful artistic choice. Bhagya Sree’s acting is particularly weak, failing to carry the emotional weight the film attempts to project. The screenplay is incoherent and poorly structured, offering no engaging moments and no clear purpose. Even with the surrounding controversy, Kaantha never justifies its existence cinematically. What remains is a dull, confusing film that relies more on off-screen noise than on-screen substance—and one that deserves to be a flop. The acting in this movie is excellent. But one thing I don’t understand is why people don’t like such movies and instead prefer illogical, meaningless movies. That makes me feel disappointed. This movie deserved to be a hit, but it didn’t become one. What I wish is that this movie should become more popular and successful. The movie is truly very good, and my hope is that everyone watches it and makes it a hit. See more Harish N @harish_napa Dec 20, 2025 Kaantha had the potential to be something impactful, but unfortunately, it ends up being disappointing. The concept feels promising on paper, yet the movie fails to translate that into an engaging or meaningful experience. The biggest drawback is the weak storyline. The narrative lacks depth and coherence, making it difficult to stay invested. Scenes feel disconnected, and the pacing drags without offering any strong payoff. Despite a few moments where the film hints at what it could have been, those moments are far too limited. Performances don’t stand out enough to elevate the material, and the emotional beats don’t land as intended. The movie never really pulls the viewer in, which makes the runtime feel longer than it should. Overall, Kaantha feels like a case of wasted potential. It’s watchable if you’re curious, but there’s very little here that leaves a lasting impression. See more Adarsh T @Adarsh0903 Dec 13, 2025 When the role is vintage Dulquer Wins. He owns Vintage. Retro Star Dulquer Salman. Kaantha Movie Synopsis: A legendary director and his star actor clash over creative control during a 1950s film production. Kaantha Movie Review: Cinema about cinema tends to collapse under its own self-awareness, but Kaantha sidesteps that trap by treating its 1950s film set less like a nostalgic museum piece and more like a cage match dressed in period clothes. Director Selvamani Selvaraj constructs what amounts to a Shakespearean tragedy, where ego, ambition, and betrayal play out against the backdrop of a troubled production. Despite reports linking it to the life of M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the film is mercifully fictional, a creation that borrows perhaps a detail or two but otherwise invents its own disaster. Jakes Bejoy's score does heavy lifting. Sometimes commitment beats cleverness. One Word Review: World Class Cinema. Verdict: Vintage Blockbuster. Selvamani Selvaraj does a fine job in capturing between Dulquer and Samuthrikani. The psychological drama plays out well but the murder mystery involving Bhagyashri Borse falls flat. The secondary characters don't have enough substance, and the interpersonal dynamics needed much better writing.
