Why this hasn’t received more recognition is a mystery to me. Thank you for writing it, thank you producing it, directing it, and thank you for acting it. No surprises, just so much a slice of life. I sat down expecting a drama and got a gut punch wrapped in dark humor — a story about grief, estrangement, and the strangers who sometimes see us more clearly than family ever could. I won't spoil a thing; this one is best experienced knowing as little as possible. What I will tell you is what it did to me: when the credits rolled, I dried my eyes, picked up my phone, and called my mother. Then I got in the car and drove to see her. Whether that was guilt, love, or some cocktail of both is between me and my therapist — but a movie that moves you off the couch to go hold someone you love is doing something very right. Allison Janney is a force of nature — blunt, bruised, achingly human — and Andrew Rannells more than holds his own. One gripe: there is a son in this film, and the audacity of that fictional human nearly broke me. If you've seen it, you know. 4 out of 5 stars. The missing point goes entirely to that son. (I shed a few tears) So well done and for me, an unexpected, yet satisfying ending! Oh, and wonderful performances from Allison Janney and Andrew Rannells. This would make a good play for the stage. The deep conversations they have about love,grief and relationships. The secrets and feelings released while in the same house is so heartbreaking and done so well.
