Beginning with the difficult philosophical question "what is music?" and continuing with an exploration of the nature of the creative process, Anker -- using a mix of candid personal accounts from the musicians, plus larger group discussions -- offers an insightful look into the often misconstrued or marginalized world of classical music.

Okay, so the narrative structure is thin and the filmmaking conservative, but the subjects present such passion in their search that it's fun to get swept up in the romance. Go to Full Review Stanley Kauffmann The New Republic Mar 20, 2006

John H @jhritz May 1, 2016 Provides insights into the lives of orchestra performers whose dreams might have been for greater things. Very well done. See more Nov 1, 2009 A couple of moments worth watching with some insightful thoughts on what makes musicians tick. But, the overwhelming majority of the film does't inspire or entertain. Paul Chambers, CNN. See more Aug 6, 2008 I love this movie. It is nerdtastic. The people in it are so inspiring for the fact that however they came to be professional musicians, they have both a humility and a bravado about it that can only come from being an extraordinary, yet underpaid and obscure, talent. See more Jan 21, 2008 Some great music, but one of the most frustrating docs I've seen. On several occasions the orchestra members were interviewed about a piece that was playing in the background, but we were never told what the piece was! This happened over and over again throughout the movie. By the end it was hard to enjoy anything else. See more Sep 21, 2007 probably not interesting for the average movie goer but a great documentary for musicians!!! See more Jul 10, 2007 I have to give a tremendous amount of respect to the Philadelphia orchestra. Dedicated and amazing musicians all put together into a great movie. See more Read all reviews
