Allan C @RT15713161 1d The Pope of Trash’s Calling Card Film Pink Flamingos (1972) ***** John Waters’ gleefully filthy cult classic is an intentionally shocking, provocative comedy that makes Jackass look tame, following Divine and her family as they feud with a couple competing to be named the filthiest people alive. Its grimy low-budget aesthetic, outrageous characters, and deliberately disgusting set pieces make it feel like forbidden cinema, and more than 50 years later, it remains just as hilarious, disturbing, and wildly offensive. Definitely not for everyone, or perhaps anyone, but for those who embrace Waters’ trashy sensibility, PINK FLAMINGOS is a twisted cult masterpiece. It was about a character named Babs Johnson who was happy to be known as the filthiest person alive and throughout the film did a lot of gross things. It includes themes related to incest, cannibalism, and eating human waste which was just very gross and made me almost cringe. I gave it 2 stars though because you could tell it was supposed to make you feel gross and it did for me.
