As the story continued, it became boring and struggled to keep me interested. It gradually lost my attention until continuing felt like a chore. The screenplay is where the film struggles. There is too much back-and-forth without meaningful progress, and the story seems to move forward only to get stuck again. Instead of building on its ideas, it keeps circling around the same issues. I never felt the writing developed the story enough to make me care about what happened next. Ultimately, Premarital does not deliver enough to make the experience worthwhile. It starts with promise, but the weak pacing and lack of engaging development keep it from becoming memorable. I cannot recommend it, because it struggles to hold the audience's attention. Attempts to tackle a very difficult subject, but it's actually all about a very annoying religious father rallying his family against an annoying atheist husband-to-be. I don't know how Robert Ingraham made a film about a Midwestern Evangelical Christian family that is as fun as it is earnest and sweet, but he did. It explores real issues while not preaching or finger-wagging (in either direction). Heads up, it's NOT a "Christian" movie (there are swear words), but it's 100% about a family and faith. If you know anyone who grew up like this, whether they're religious now or not, this film is for them - there's never been a film quite like this. See more Read all reviews
