A seemingly ideal day turns disastrous when California's notorious San Andreas Fault triggers a devastating, magnitude 9 earthquake, the largest in recorded history. As the Earth cracks open and buildings start to crumble, Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), an LAFD search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, must navigate the destruction from Los Angeles to San Francisco to bring his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and their only daughter (Alexandra Daddario) to safety.

How does movies with the rock keep getting worse and worse? What is truly the bottom for these movies? This may be near absolute bedrock because the logic isn't there. The science is so far off it ruins it for me. How does a tsunami happen in California of the earthquake occurs inside of California? Wouldn't it go outward? So much of this movie is pointless. The plot armor is so dense that inside a story where literally everyone is dying I knew without a shadow of a doubt that The Rock, the ex-wife who he would win back, and the daughter would live. I even suspected a redemption arc for the main character where he could save his daughter and they cram that in, he saves her from drowning. Well sort of she is dead for sure and he pounds her chest into pieces to resuscitate her for the plot. So predictable and so dumb. Impossible in so many ways. I wouldn't recommend this in any way to anyone. Save your time.

Disaster Movie Done Right... The Rock fit perfectly in this kind of role, and even though it’s over-the-top at times, that’s honestly part of the fun. Great popcorn disaster movie.

Never paid attention to critics much. If its got a good cast and good plot then I enjoy. I've read what the critics say but I personally don't see it. It was a movie where you ignored your phone. Any movie that keeps my mind engrossed in a film and off the phone is great. Loved the movie.
