What to Know

Critics Consensus

Its efforts to earn laughs can be as ungainly as its title, but for viewers in tune with its absurdist humor, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared offers much to recommend.

It's never explained what Allan's mental state is, other than lovable geriatric rascal-itis, an irritating trope that hardly constitutes a certifiable condition. Go to Full Review Tom Long Detroit News Jun 12, 2015

The 100-Year-Old Man... still entertains for the majority of its running time, but it feels like two separate movies, a dual shaggy dog story stitched together like Frankenstein's monster, never breaking free of its quirky literary origins. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared is a very long title for such a crazy story. The humour is hit-and-miss, so it may only appeal to fans of the original book. Go to Full Review Ellie Lucas From the Front Row Aug 7, 2019

Marce S @RT24248553 Sep 13, 2025 A funny black comedy. What is most hillarious is the contrast between modern day grey rural Sweden and big time events with Allan meeting historic figures such as Stalin, Oppenheimer and Franco.
