Freshly ousted from her rock band, Nomi takes a last-resort job from her best friend Mara at their childhood Jewish summer camp. As camp director Mara contends with a busted septic system, she tasks Nomi to supervise a group of outsider teens called the floaters. When their rival camp -- led by Mara and Nomi's nemesis Daniel -- issues a high stakes challenge with prize money on the line, Nomi pushes the limits and loses Mara's trust. Now, Nomi and the Floaters must overcome their differences and outperform their rivals to keep the camp alive. Framed through multigenerational perspectives, this offbeat comedy captures the rich diversity of a Jewish summer camp and explores the conflict between leaving one’s mark and building connection.

The summer camp genre is as old as Moses, but faster than you can say "Meatballs" this one has the twist of focusing on Jewish youth. It's the same bullies, geeks etc. and is so Jewish it's practically lifted on a chair and sung Hava Nagila to.

The writers/producers did attend Jewish summer camp like one fondly, enjoyably portrayed. Alumni bring their kids. Despite flashy bits/cameos by familiar Jewish males, focus is on two alumna, still BFFs. Refreshingly, schmaltz & nostalgia are mocked.

somehow this is an alternate jewish version of the movie Bad Counselors where the demographic of every character is 10 years older. swap the two counselors with one punk rock woman and her best friend and add a rival camp. This movie is meant for the same audience as bad counselors, so all your token social commentary and gen-z bad jokes are here. a lot of unnecessary mentions of israel that make smart people sigh. at least the lighting was the best part here. Jonah is somehow the best character since he looks so annoyed to be in this movie. the two best scenes were the floaters building the set and all the characters dancing (for some reason). The main character keeps proving that being immature brings out creativity by the end.

I saw this movie 7/11 in New York City with a crowd of Jewish Camp Adults. I think there is something in this movie for all kids (and parents of kids)!who have gone to Jewish summer camp, summer camp, or who have ever been a kid that didn’t quite fit in. It knows that it has connections to Meatballs and to The Breakfast Club and it doesn’t try to hide them. In fact, sometimes the throwbacks help reinforce the story. The adult actors are fantastic and most of the kids are a pleasure too (even if the writers sometimes forget if they are in Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Gilmore Girls). I can’t wait to go back again when my kid gets home from camp.
