The toys are back in Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5," and this time it's Toy meets Tech. Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen), Jessie (voice of Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad (voice of Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Rarely does the movie hit on any salient points that the series hasn’t already made, opting instead to repeat narrative patterns and jerk a few tears here and there. Go to Full Review

Toy Story 5 has its moments of joy – and some great animation in the play sequences - but it’s an inconsequential entry that couldn’t possibly compare to the first and third films. Go to Full Review

Toy Story 5 is eager to raise the alarms and then grimly determined to mute them. Its guiding spirit isn’t Wall-E but HAL 9000 -- a congenial but underlyingly sinister simulacrum of emotion. Go to Full Review

Writer-directors McKenna Harris and Andrew Stanton have crafted a funny and heartwarming story with a real emotional impact. Even the talented people at Pixar go astray once in a while, but here, they find their way back home. Go to Full Review

While Lilypad’s influence on Bonnie is alarming, the answer is not for the toys to start smashing screens and denouncing devices. The path forward that Pixar proposes is, thank goodness, nuanced. And it has everything to do with the importance of play. Go to Full Review

Toy Story 5 offers the warmth and fun we expect with lovable characters. The message about balancing technology with imagination felt a bit counter productive. Filled with heartfelt moments and was a naturally enjoyable chapter of the franchise. Go to Full Review

Emorej 3h Great movie! I loved how it related to today’s technology. Enjoyed the movie, highly recommended!! See more Debra 3h Felt movie was aimed at adults who don’t monitor screen time for their children. Enjoyed reconnecting with old characters. See more Nana Starr 21h The movie had a great theme of children putting electronics down and using their imaginations. Also, the movie touched on cyber bullying which was a good topic to approach. The one main drawback was when Bonnie was reached out to in a text from an anonymous person and her and her mother went to meet this stranger. Our family had a very serious talk about receiving and sending messages to and from strangers and then going to their house. Because of this missed unsafe situation that was presented - I give the movie a 4. See more Mr Hardesty 22h It’s cute. It made me tear up. My wife and I loved it. See more Kenneth B 23h Clever, great pace, great message, industry leading animation-Still the example of animated storytelling all the other studios try to emulate. Another classic out of the franchise See more EEKNC 1d one of the better toy story movies because they started being boring but this is definitely good See more Read all reviews
