Set in 1985, Adam Sandler plays a nice guy with a broken heart who's stuck in one of the most romantic jobs in the world, a wedding singer. He loses all hope when he is abandoned at the altar by his fiancé. He meets a young woman named Julia, who enlists his help to plan her wedding. Eventually, he falls in love with her and must win her over before she gets married.

It's decidedly uneven -- and surprisingly sappy for an early Adam Sandler comedy -- but The Wedding Singer is also sweet, funny, and beguiling.

A pitch-perfect celebration of a time when male perms and Van Halen were in at the same time, 25 years after it was first released, this 1985-set comedy is perhaps still the most crowd-pleasing and entertaining 90 minutes of Adam Sandler’s career.

The wedding singer is the cinematic equivalent of a warm bowl of soup and a blanket. The two leads are so charming together. All of the side characters pop and almost every joke lands. The only issue I have ever had is the ultra raunchy conversation with the old lady that feel out of place with the rest of the vibe.

A sweet, late '90s romcom with likeable performances from its two leads, memorable cameos from Steve Buscemi, Jon Lovitz and Billy Idol, jokes that sometimes miss but REALLY hit when they don't and, while not really a music story, the actual singing isn't too bad. And when it is a bit more off-key, it's intentional due to the whole "stood up at his own wedding" thing. Yes, The Wedding Singer is predictable/clichéd but it's executed well-enough that it doesn't become a bother. Plus, these are not the kinds of films one watches for their plot twists, anyway. A cute movie with a couple of standout quotes I won't give away for people who've never seen this film. Hardly a masterpiece of its genre but it doesn’t really have to be.
