The storyline dragged and the the shaky, constantly zoomed-in visuals made it difficult to understand the scene. Didn't get halfway. The movie is entirely lacking in a soundtrack. The quiet is unnerving. Where the moors are described as a beautiful country, this movie manages to make everything look ugly and dreary. Wuthering Heights appears to be a grimy and dilapidated hovel throughout the whole movie (which is not how I visualized it when reading the book). Heathcliff and Cathy just seem so boring, both in their childhood and as adults. Couldn’t even finish it. Everything feels heavy, raw, and atmospheric from the stormy moors to the shadowy interiors. It’s not polished or romanticised, it’s gritty and intense in a way that feels more real. The costumes are a textured, worn, and grounded in the environment rather than decorative. They reflect the characters perfectly, especially Heathcliff’s roughness and Catherine’s shift between control and chaos. What I liked most is the relationship. It’s not soft romance it’s obsessive, uncomfortable, and kind of electric. The darker, more sensual moments feel tense rather than overdone, which adds to the overall mood. Overall, it’s a bold, moody take that embraces the story’s darkness instead of softening it. Arnold's austere style would have been prefect for Heathcliff's drawn out revenge and descent into madness.
