What to Know

Critics Consensus

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Wonder Man, turning in a sly performance alongside an equally wonderful Ben Kingsley in this low-stakes superhero fare that boasts high-hearted personal drama as its winning factor.

Audience Says

Wonder Man finds alchemy in its leading men, who deliver a refreshingly human story with greater emotional power than straight up kicks -- and it’s all the stronger for it.

A satire about struggling actors and the ludicrous Hollywood inequality they’re trying to get around doesn’t sound like a particularly original idea, but when you plug it into the dour world of Marvel superheroes it’s actually a welcome change of pace. Go to Full Review

The actors’ chemistry and undeniable bromance is a great reason to watch, but this is also an entertaining and low-stakes story that doesn’t require mass MCU viewing or knowledge to fully enjoy. Go to Full Review

It’s a different kind of Marvel epic. Special effects take a backseat to laughs as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley spoof egomaniac actors who learn it’s better to stop chasing fame and be in it for the love of the game. Go to Full Review

‘Wonder Man’ is wonderful not because of his superpowers, but in the friends he meets along the way. Yahya and Ben Kingsley are Marvel Studios’ new dynamic duo, and you will have fun watching them navigate the trials of Hollywood together. Go to Full Review

Defying all self-imposed rules, Wonder Man is a genre series that puts superheroes in the background. A buddy comedy through and through. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It's indefinitely delayed gratification, de-escalation, anti-climax. And you've got to get with that program if you're going to enjoy it. I mostly did. Go to Full Review

Dimitry R @MovieBoy22 17h Not funny, not interesting, not smart, nothing to grab your attention, no story, pointless dialogues, and low stakes. Atrocious. See more Johnny B. @thatboyjb 1d One of the better Marvel shows of recent. For me to not know anything about Wonder Man it was a really good watch. Not full of action or anything along those lines but I really enjoyed the dialogue & storyline between the characters. Interested to see how this character develops going forward. See more Mir S @mirsumon9 2d Just finished watching Wonder Man — truly enjoyed it! The cast was great, especially Yahya Abdul-Mateen as Wonder Man and my favorite Ben Kingsley is brilliant as Trevor Slattery. The story mixed thriller, action, emotion & comedy. The Mandarin twist was brilliant, heartfelt. See more Bradley M @bradIam 2d Great! Not sure what I can add to this conversation. Excellent writing, great production and super acting. I know this is getting a lot of hype, but it's well deserved. Best thing I've seen in a while. I am not-so-patiently awaiting news of a forthcoming second season. See more Brian G @Goodwibr 3d An odd Marvel superhero show, with almost no superhero action. Ben Kingsley is the standout, as he reprises his Trevor Slattery character from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi - turning one of the weaker characters in the MCU to being one of the standouts. Yahya Abdul-Mateen's character of Simon Williams can be a bit overly neurotic, but when he and Kingsley are together, especially in some of the quieter moments, the show really shines. Just don't go in expecting a lot of superhero antics. See more Jonathan R. @picky 3d Absolutely amazing!!!!! I don’t think anything can prepare you for this series. It’s not your typical Marvel superhero story. There’s so much heart , real struggle and true friendship. The acting is phenomenal. This is what Marvel can do when they decide to actually write characters well and let real acting push them. The Mandarin steals every scene. So good to have him back. See more Read all reviews
