Critics Consensus

Shallow, sappy, and dull, New Year's Eve assembles a star-studded cast for no discernible purpose.

To keep it short and sweet: the movie is messier than Times Square at 3 a.m. on January 1st. Go to Full Review

New Year's Eve is a perfect example of why the adjective "Hollywood" is so often used as a pejorative. Go to Full Review

Forget counting down from 10 as the ball drops in Times Square; here instead is a countdown of the 10 key points in the dismal New Year’s Eve. Go to Full Review

The comedy fulfills its industrial purpose, but it reveals that when discourse replaces conflict, the narrative loses its foundation. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life 2d De'Niro to SJP to Berry to all the greats in this I applaud you. This holiday trilogy is one of my favorites. Gary marshall late in his career gave us this gem along with mothers day 2016 and valentine's day 2010. I love how all the stories conclude together on new year's eve. I cried twice. Robert and Hilary were great. The bloopers were funny to. I highly recommend the holiday trilogy. Its cute See more Blu B Jan 2 This is probably the most boring Holiday film I have ever seen. Not the worst but my god...the pacing is just nonexistant. The fact this has every single actor possible puts in Movie 43 territory for how much it wastes the talent. The acting & cinematography suprisngly isn't good. The jokes are just flat nonstop, the dialouge is nothing special, and the characters half of these people are given is either on par or one step above a Hallmark movie. It's lots of on location but it somehow looks cheap and basic direction. The music is generic and forgettable stuff too. The editing is terrible also. DeNiro's arc is probably the most memorable for em and the one I would've wanted to see more of. But this must have heck I lost count like over a dozen storylines of couples having kids, dying, falling in love, and just doing nonsense. There all seperate storylines 90% of the time that have no real central themes, aren't funny, memorable, and if anything the times the See more Alexander S Oct 20 Much like Garry Marshall's Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve is a light-hearted, feel-good movie, with a star-studded cast and romantic comedic storylines centered around scenarios before the clock hits.
