On summer holidays I'd catch him playing for money — never with me, never in front of me if he could help it. That world stayed behind a door I wasn't allowed through, and Lucky is what was on the other side. He used to say: lucky at cards, unlucky in love. He meant it literally. Every win draws down the luck in the rest of your life, like water from a well. So before any decision that mattered, I'd buy a lottery ticket — if it paid out, I knew the answer would go against me. That's the arithmetic this show is built on. Lucky wins constantly. Anya Taylor-Joy plays her with the composure of someone never once caught, and the series keeps asking what all that winning has been charged against. Every escape costs her something — and the show lets you see the bill. It understands something my grandfather knew without a screenwriter to explain it. 100 out of 10. Maybe some of Lucky’s escapades strained credulity, but that happens in lots of heist movies, too. Shout out to the lead, Anya Taylor Joy and I also really enjoyed Annette Bening in this one. I wondered if she drew inspiration from Angelica Huston, her co-star in the great “Grifters”. See more Max B @maxzbear 5d Again, th review bashers inability to distinguish between a series that is supposed to be meaningful versus one that is purely for entertainment purposes. Secondly, the story is outrageous, and the sequences portrayed are in fact impossible, but that's what makes some series intriguing. The series character archetypes are in fact somewhat cliché—you have the highly flawed father, the psychopathic crime boss, along with many others—however, that does not mean that the series execution is also flawed.The main reason for this rant is that it is because of these people, along with several other factors, that streaming services have now become much more resistant to releasing future projects. The lack of ability to see the intention behind certain projects, and then bashing them based entirely on emotion, is not helpful discourse.
