What to Know

Critics Consensus

With plenty of pulpy action, a pleasantly retro vibe, and a handful of fine performances, Captain America is solidly old-fashioned blockbuster entertainment.

Noah L @PilgorOfSanAngora 2d Captain America: The First Avenger does have it's flaws BUT is also a MCU classic! Chris Evens does a great and memorable performance as Steve Rogers (Captain America), and Hayley Atwell delivers a sharp, capable performance as Peggy Carter, with great romantic and dynamic tension between Rogers. This movie also does the 1940's vibe very well, so even when it's a recent film, it feels like a good classic! However despite most of the story being good, the third act feels a bit rushed, and they try to add to many things at once. And despite Hugo Weavens performance, Red Skull really lacks any story, and is just a stereotypical, power hungry villain. But even with some flaws that should have been fixed before the movie came out, I still think it is VERY FUN to rewatch. Chris Evans perfectly embodies Captain America, making Steve Rogers an inspiring hero. While the pacing is uneven at times, it's an enjoyable and important start to his MCU journey. See more Jason R @JasonLovesMoviesForever 4d An excellent beginning to Captain America! See more Sutton K @RT86162946 5d Good movie, classic solid marvel movie.
