Written with clear compassion and boasting a robust performance by Lili Taylor, “I Shot Andy Warhol” portrays Solanas as a product of modern alienation. Go to Full Review

[Mary Harron] does two remarkable things in her movie: She makes Solanas almost sympathetic and sometimes moving and funny, and she creates a portrait of the Factory that's devastating and convincing. Go to Full Review

Though this terrifically cast movie may prove a tad too detached even for some members of its targeted audience, it covers remarkable ground in less than two hours. Go to Full Review

An incisive depiction of the violent clash between pop art and radical politics, I Shot Andy Warhol remains one of the most electric debut features of the 1990s. Go to Full Review

Newcomer Lili Taylor makes you stand up and take notice of her gritty, raw performance in this flick. She steals each and every scene she appears in and that’s most of them. Go to Full Review

Playing Valerie, Lili Taylor really goes to that crazy place where Valerie was. She's brilliant, and if she doesn't win an Academy Award, I'm going to shoot them! Go to Full Review

Max S @Spiralman 7h "I Shot Andy Warhol" is the quintessential 90s indie film. A perfect balance of cinematic professionalism and grit, with a runaway performance by Lili Taylor, the film takes us inside of Warhol's legendary kingdom of underground art and broken characters. See more Alec B @Alec97 02/28/2024 It has an air of authenticity to its depictions of Solanas, Warhol, Candy Darling, et al that you rarely get from these kinds of movies. See more 05/01/2021 It's hard to 'shoot' someone famous and admire them at the same time. Based on the true story Lilli Taylor is Valerie Solanas. She's an upcoming writer with a background in psychology. Her biggest idol is Andy Warhol played by Jarred Harris. But when she gets to the city she turns to prostitution mostly cause of a result due to child abuse in her family. So she plans to turn that around working with Warhol. She believes in the female superiority complex, she's determined to change the system laying out the flaws with men. A book publisher pitches an idea to write a sexually explicit novel she wants Warhol to produce her play. From ambitious author to obsessive, delusional admirer Valerie embarks on a dangerous course of events. This was the 60s; many of the superstars were queer, including drag queens and transgender socialites. The concept of free love was steadily becoming a thing during these times, in contrast to the conservative views of the 50s and earlier. Queer people have always existed, but now it was becoming more visible. Warhol's art studio, known as The Factory, was a regular hangout for a variety of artists, performers, and other personalities. With Valerie she even presented her scum manifesto; the SCUM Manifesto was a critique of patriarchy by Solanas to vent her anger at how she was treated, how she grew up, and how she saw the world. Turns out she was struggling with mental illness and the more Warhol put off her play the more paranoid and betrayed she felt. Lilli Taylor is spectacular as this passionate yet unstable wannabe artist. It's very sad to see Valerie going off the deep end when all else fails. Jarred Harris plays Andy Warhol to a considerable degree. Being passionate can only go so far until you get completely brushed aside. See more 12/15/2019 This is a really good, I believe harder to find movie. It is based in the 60's New York based on the woman who shot Any Warhol. Watch if you are a fan of that time period or Andy Warhol etc... interesting movie. See more Fong Kok Hoong F @RT29722865 04/06/2019 Lili Taylor's punchy performance as Valerie Solanas, the misogynistic homosexual feminist who assassinated the titular American artist mismatches this queerish comedy with shades of eccentricity reminiscent of Andy Warhol's Factory productions. See more 02/10/2018 Valerie Solanas was nuts and yet her SCUM Manifesto still polarizes people. This film began life as a documentary and retains the immediacy of a doc. Lili Taylor is wonderful as Solanas. Captures the spirit of the times. See more Read all reviews
