Brendan K. @Bkeller25 6d Iron Man 2 is not without its good moments, but it's largely a step down from the incredible first film. It contains many of the early MCU growing pains, and it is surprisingly really light on action. As a result, the character development is given a lot of time to shine. I just wish there were more engaging moments and a compelling villain. There is too much going on, and it can feel unfocused. The final fight was underwhelming. That being said, I liked Stark's characterization as well as the inclusion of Black Widow. So, while it's necessary in the setup to the first Avengers, it isn't particularly memorable when looking at the larger MCU catalog today. It's far from a bad movie, moreso just uneventful. Looking back, I only see the positives here. The characterization of everyone is consistent, the villains are engaging at least a little bit, and there are plenty of iconic scenes throughout. However, there are problems with the plot and actual story of the film. There's a lot going on. Too much, even. They're introducing Black Widow, they're setting up The Avengers, they're doing a whole subplot about Tony's arc reactor killing him and then his quest to create a new element, and probably more I'm not recalling. Although these problems are there, I still thoroughly enjoy this one with every rewatch. Though it's not as good as the first, I like it a lot. See more Bret M. @BretM-3 Mar 28 My memories of this movie weren’t too fond, but this movie aged much better than I remembered. It has one major issue for me though. I don’t think this move has great villains. I don’t think Whiplash or Justin Hammer are great villains for this movie. While I think Ivan does get some good action scenes, I don’t really think he can carry a movie. And neither can Justin Hammer. He is good at being the villain you love to hate, but other than that, he feels very basic. Other than that, this movie is really good! It does a great job of continuing Tony and Pepper’s story while also continuing to lay the groundwork for the Avengers. Having Black Widow in here was a great idea and I love her hallway fight! Honestly, the action scenes are this movie’s greatest strengths. The Monaco Grand Prix scene is great, Black Widow’s scene is great, the final battle with the Hammer Drones and Whiplash, they’re all great!
