What to Know

Critics Consensus

Normal thrives on Bob Odenkirk's gruff yet playful presence and director Ben Wheatley's over-the-top carnage, delivering simple, ridiculous, and consistently entertaining thrills despite its familiar premise.

"the thing about overtly referencing a film as funny and deft as "Fargo" is that it’s only going to make us think about "Fargo," so your film better be just as good — or at least come close. Alas, "Normal" does not." Go to Full Review

For all the mirth and mayhem, Bob Odenkirk and his merry pranksters are exposing how violence is wired into the American character. Go to Full Review

The violence is pretty graphic, and some of it is played for laughs, which would be distasteful if the laughs didn’t actually land. Oh well. Sometimes you enjoy a movie, and you don’t feel good about it in the morning. Go to Full Review

A battle royale towards the end of the film, in particular, is a real fun standout. At 90 minutes, this movie is exactly as long as it needs to be and remains quite fun, even after it stops pretending to be normal. Go to Full Review

Fans of films like Nobody will feel right at home. That said, Ben Wheatley’s solid directing, the emphasis placed on dark humor, and the outrageously messy gunfights are all enough to differentiate Normal from that series. Go to Full Review

Diana R 4h Great movie! Loved it from start to finish! Perfect balance of action, drama, and comedy! I must see! See more Sue 4h Odenkirk holds your attention, very action packed, good music See more Juandi 6h I went in blind & really enjoyed this film. I loved the camera work specifically during the action scenes. The humor wasn’t over the top or too try-hard. Overall it’s a wholesome bloodbath. See more Facebook U 6h It was a great and funny movie, really liked it See more Pete F 7h I'm a product of the 80's and 90's. I love schlock! I love mindless action thrillers. I'm also not that smart. All said, this movie treats the viewer as if they're are mindless morons. This is a stupid movie. While it's competently filmed and there's entertainment value to be had, this a horrible script. Bob Odenkirk is far too smart for this. The story telling in this film is egregiously bad. I haven't walked out of a film in years, but I walked out on this one. Embarrassingly bad editing. See more mark 7h Starts kinda slow BUT PICKS UP GLORIOUSLY!!! See more Read all reviews
