In the land of Earthsea, a mysterious force threatens to plunge humanity into destruction and chaos. A powerful wizard named Sparrowhawk seeks the source of his world's imbalance, and along the way rescues a runaway prince named Arren. While certainly as beautiful a film as everyone has come to expect of Ghibli, this is definitely one of their weaker films. It opens very well, but the final act goes kinda all over the place. Recommended for Ghibli die-hards, but not for first-timers.

Goro doesn't have his father's whimsy, and the movie wanders a bit and lacks pacing. But it's beautiful to look at, nicely animated, and Willem Dafoe voices the extremely creepy villain with gusto.

It’s a nice film but it seems to take a hard turn in the middle and the ending is kinda a muddy mess. If you have to understand the book to get the movie, that’s a failure of the movie.
