Uwe Schwarzwalder’s crime thriller doesn’t immediately announce itself as anything particularly unconventional; it begins with a familiar robbery setup and lets the characters take it from there. But as the situation deteriorates, the film becomes increasingly driven by paranoia, shifting loyalties, and the question of who can actually be trusted. That gradual transformation is where the movie found its strongest footing for me. For a low-budget crime thriller, The Safe offers an intriguing combination of strong location work, character-driven suspense, and a screenplay that keeps its alliances deliberately unstable. While sharper direction could have elevated some performances and dramatic moments, the film remains an engaging watch, particularly once its straightforward robbery setup gives way to a much more unpredictable game of greed, betrayal, and survival.
