TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch May 18 A Madea Family Funeral didn’t fully feel like a true Madea movie the way I expected it to. Going in, I wanted the film to capture the loud, chaotic, hilarious energy that Madea usually brings to the screen, but instead she felt more like a supporting character than the main attraction. Whenever Madea, Hattie, or the rest of the family showed up, the movie instantly became more entertaining because those scenes carried the comedy and over-the-top moments fans expect from the franchise. The story focuses heavily on cheating, secrets, and family drama, but the balance between comedy and drama never fully works. Even though the film jokes about how long Black funerals can be, the funeral scenes themselves still felt dragged out and repetitive. A lot of the movie could have been trimmed down without losing the point. Overall, it’s not one of my favorite Madea movies, and I expected to enjoy it far more than I did. The pacing hurt the experience for me overall.!
