What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it looks like shameless publicity for the semi-notorious Aussie surfing gang, the film packs a raw energy into this look at a culture of athleticism and male loyalty.

You know going in that this is going to be a fairly one-sided portrait. But it's also fairly thorough with its archival footage, historical and sociological perspective. Go to Full Review

John N @JMNJMM Feb 10 People have lived in Australia for over 50,000 years, so why does Russell Crowe's narration say that James Cook arrived to an 'unexplored' continent? See more 02/01/2014 It's a great documentary it was very honest in its portrayal of the surfing gang See more 01/28/2013 The only real deal to watch here is the narration done by Russel Crowe. The whole film was emotionally manipulative and only served as a propaganda for the acceptance of gang culture. It's actually quite disturbing to see these people became street hooligans. I can't believe this film even got distributed, I mean what are we trying to teach kids these days. I know their stories are tragic but this is not the excuse for them to pretend they are cool. See more 04/15/2012 There's no panache or cleverness to the style and presentation and it's a very partisan view given. The bra boy culture is interesting though and there's some ace surf footage. See more 02/06/2012 pretty damn interesting. i knew nothing about these guys but what a great story they told See more 01/13/2012 This was great. Good surfing & good story lines See more Read all reviews
